Have you ever wanted something so badly as a child that you took matters in your own hands to ensure you met your dreams? Our favourite photographer this week lay claim to that! Environment protection worker by day and talented photographer by night, Mihael takes his passions very seriously. Today we feature Mihael Draksic’s amazing images and his inspirational success story of how he broke into the world of photography.

COINAPHOTO: We love your work. Where were you born and where are you now based?

Mihael: I was born and raised in a small town in central Croatia called Karlovac. I attended the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Zagreb. I now live in the Croatian capital of Zagreb and primarily work in environmental protection.

COINAPHOTO: From working in environment protection to also having a passion for photography is quite a leap. How did you first develop an interest in photography? Feel free to tell us any personal inspiring stories.

Mihael: I first developed an interest in photography in high school. I don’t know why but one day I decided to buy myself a camera. In order to be able to afford one, I worked over the summer to buy my first DSLR with my own money. Yes, it may come as a surprise that I started immediately with DSLR.  I do not know why but I was drawn to the feeling of holding the camera and shooting. Now here I am years later, fulfilling my dreams!

CoinaPhoto: What kind of photography are you most passionate about?

Mihael: At this point, I prefer landscape and nature photography however, I want to venture out. I took a trip to Dinara mountain in 2012 as part of a biological study. We hiked a lot and from that emerged some beautiful landscape photos. It was raining and I had to cover my camera with a plastic bag in order to be able to shoot.

CoinaPhoto: How do you find the CoinaPhoto platform? Do you have any words of wisdom for aspiring photographers out there?

Mihael: CoinaPhoto platform is very interesting and fun. I like the combination of photo contests and selling photos so just keep shooting!
